Bij Laluka is elk gerecht het resultaat van een verhaal over versheid en toewijding. Hier begint onze reis in de natuur, een levendig canvas dat we eren en beschermen door onze keuze van ingrediënten.

Onze toewijding aan biologisch, van boer tot tafel dineren gaat niet alleen over wat er op het bord ligt, maar is een zintuiglijke renaissance, een herstel van het welzijn van onze gasten.

Hoewel we trouw blijven aan Zuid-Afrikaanse wijnen, met uitzondering van de verfijnde Franse champagnes die onze collectie sieren, hebben we de gebaande paden verlaten.

Every family travels differently, and your stay at Laluka can be shaped around your children’s ages, your energy levels, the season, wildlife movement and the kind of experience you would like to have.
This sample 3-night itinerary gives you an idea of the natural Laluka rhythm: safari, good food, quiet time, family moments and time to properly arrive in the bush.
For families staying longer, we can create a more personalised itinerary with additional Laluka experiences woven into your stay, such as special sundowners, bush dinners, farm visits, farm lunches or dinners, Bushman painting visits, rhino sanctuary visits, wildlife interventions, fly camping, fine dining dinners and wine pairing dinners.

Most families arrive at Laluka around 11:30, although arrival times can be flexible depending on your travel plans. There is no need to rush straight into safari mode. First, you arrive, breathe out a little, and let the journey fall away.
After your transfer into the reserve and arrival at the lodge, there is time to settle in and get familiar with your room. The children can explore their new surroundings, parents can unpack, and everyone gets a first feeling for the quiet, open space of Laluka. Lunch is served shortly after, giving your family time to sit down together and ease into the day. After lunch, there is a little pause before the afternoon safari. Some guests return to their rooms for a rest, others spend a quiet moment on the deck, enjoying the view and the feeling of finally being in the bush.
Later in the afternoon, you’ll head out with your guide for your first game drive. This is often when the excitement really begins — the first animal tracks, the first questions from the children, the first wide views across Welgevonden, and that special feeling of not knowing what you may see around the next corner.
When you return to the lodge, there is time to freshen up before joining your hosts at the bar for a drink. It is a relaxed moment to talk about the drive, ask questions, and let the evening settle in. After that, dinner is served — a warm, unhurried end to your first day at Laluka, with the bush just outside and your family already beginning to find its own safari rhythm.
Family moment: Day 1 is about arriving properly. A gentle lunch, time to rest, the first drive into the reserve, a drink with your hosts, and dinner together as the bush becomes part of the family story.

After a good night’s sleep in the bush, the day starts early — but gently. About 15 minutes before departure, you’ll meet your guide at the bar, where coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits will be waiting. It is a lovely quiet moment before the reserve wakes fully, and before your family heads out on the first morning drive.
The morning safari has its own kind of magic. The air is still cool, the light is soft, and the bush slowly comes alive around you. Your guide will help you notice what is happening along the way — not only the larger animals, but also the tracks, birds, sounds and smaller details that children often become surprisingly good at spotting.
Back at the lodge, breakfast is ready. There will be hot and cold options, and time to sit down properly together after the early start.
After breakfast, the day is yours for a while. Some families choose the spa, others head for the pool, read on the deck, or simply enjoy a quiet moment in their rooms. And if your family is curious to see the bush from a different angle, you can join one of our guides for a bush walk after breakfast. It is a wonderful way to slow down and discover the smaller things that are so often overlooked from a vehicle — tracks, plants, insects, birds and the quiet signs of life all around you.
In the early afternoon, it is time for lunch. This might be served in one of our private spots, or you may choose to gather around the kitchen counter for a show-cooking lunch with our chef. It is relaxed, interactive and a lovely way for the family to learn how some of Laluka’s dishes come together.
Following lunch, there is time to settle again before the afternoon drive. Later in the day, you’ll head back into the reserve with your guide as the light begins to soften and the bush changes pace.
When you return, there is time to freshen up before meeting at the bar for a cocktail or drink of your choice.
Tonight, dinner is something special: a private boma dinner for your family, outside by the fire and under the stars. It is the kind of evening where everyone slows down, the stories from the day come out naturally, and the bush feels very close.
Family moment: Day 2 is about more than safari drives. It is about coffee before sunrise, children noticing small things in the bush, time together between activities, and an evening around the fire that feels completely your own.

By Day 3, your family has settled into the Laluka rhythm. You know your guide, the children are starting to recognise the sounds and signs of the bush, and the reserve begins to feel a little more familiar. This day can follow a similar flow to Day 2, with a morning drive, time at the lodge, lunch, an afternoon drive and a relaxed final dinner. But for families who would like to explore a little further, we can also arrange something special: a longer day drive into other areas of Welgevonden Game Reserve.
A day drive gives your family the chance to see parts of the reserve that are usually too far to reach on a normal morning or afternoon safari. It is a wonderful way to experience the scale and beauty of Welgevonden, from open plains and rocky ridges to hidden valleys, changing vegetation and wide views across the Waterberg landscape.
The rhythm of the day depends on the season.
In summer, your family will usually leave early, often with a breakfast pack to enjoy along the way. You may be out in the reserve from around 06:00 until 13:00 or 14:00, making the most of the cooler morning hours and the early activity in the bush.
In winter, the day often starts a little later. You can enjoy breakfast at the lodge first before leaving around 09:00 with a delicious packed lunch prepared for the drive. You would usually return to the lodge around 15:00 or 16:00.
Whichever version suits your family best, the day drive adds a sense of adventure to your stay. It gives you time to travel further, stop more slowly, enjoy a meal out in the reserve and see Welgevonden from a broader perspective.
When you return to Laluka, there is still time to enjoy the lodge: a swim, a spa treatment, a quiet drink, time on your deck, or simply a last slow afternoon together before dinner.
Your final evening at Laluka is a chance to settle into the memories of the past few days — the sightings, the stories, the shared meals, the small discoveries, and the feeling of having experienced the bush together as a family.
Family moment: Day 3 can be as relaxed or as adventurous as your family would like. Stay close to the Laluka rhythm, or spend the day exploring deeper into Welgevonden with a packed breakfast or lunch and the whole reserve unfolding

Your final morning at Laluka begins with one last drive into Welgevonden Game Reserve. By now, the bush feels different from when you first arrived. The landscapes are more familiar, the sounds mean a little more, and your family has its own collection of sightings, stories and favourite moments.This last morning drive is a gentle way to say goodbye to the reserve. There may be one final special sighting, or perhaps it is simply the quiet beauty of the Waterberg, the morning light, the fresh tracks in the road, and the feeling of being together in the bush for a little while longer.
After the drive, you will return to the lodge with time to pack, freshen up and enjoy breakfast. While your family sits down for breakfast, your guides will collect the luggage and prepare for your transfer back to Laluka Farm.
Normal departure from the lodge is around 10:30, although, just like arrival, departure times can be flexible depending on your onward travel plans. Late check-out options may also be possible, subject to availability.
When you arrive back at Laluka Farm, and if time allows, your family can enjoy a farm tour before continuing your journey. This is a lovely way to close the circle of your stay: seeing where some of the ingredients used in your meals were grown and discovering more about the farm that forms such an important part of the Laluka experience.
After that, it is time to continue with your South African adventure. We hope your family leaves with more than photographs — with shared stories, small discoveries, favourite meals, first sightings, quiet moments and long-lasting memories of your time at Laluka.
Family moment: Day 4 is the soft goodbye — one last drive, one last breakfast, a possible visit to the farm, and the feeling that Laluka has become part of your family’s South African story.
